Beautiful, evocative photographs...which depict so wonderfully, that quiet beauty that settles with each snowflake!

It’s funny you’re getting more snow than usual because to me your photos look like a normal December. I always found it weird when I was younger that winter technically started towards the end of December because December has always been a solidly “winter” month in my mind.

But this year’s been different. Quite different. More like the December of my dreams, probably closer to your normal December, where it’s cool, but often above 0 and still mild enough to not be bundled up like a marshmallow to stay warm outside. Yesterday it got up to 8, and we only got some snow a week ago, and it’s a very small amount -- less than in your photos. It’s obviously the El Niño and climate change but it’s this strange feeling of finally getting what you want and feeling depressed about it because of it’s implications.

Last month was the first snow-free November in Edmonton since 1928 and I’m still not convinced what little snow we do have will stick around for Christmas. And this is a part of the world that basically always has a “white Christmas”. This was already our driest fall on record which is making me think to wildfires next year already.

We’re living through strange times, indeed.

I agree, December for me too is the ultimate "winter" month. But it isn't common anymore, that we get snow here. And not common at all that it stays for a week. I don't recall when we had a "White Christmas" the last time. But I know as a kid we had a lot of fun snow days.

I didn't know about the first snow-free November for so long where you live and now where you mention it, I am worried for all the wildfires next year. North America had been hit so hard this year already. This makes me worried and sad.

I hope you will get some snow - even if that means you have to dress like a marshmallow! If it saves the forest...

Beautiful album Suzanne! Just everything I’ve been loving since I was a child : to make your own books :)

Your photographs are of course very beautiful but I love also your choice of paper and the two colors, the layout (love love the single picture folded with the spine) and the stitched spine which is very Japanese looking. It’s very inspiring as many of your posts and makes me feel like starting one just now. I relate so much to what you say about being a perfectionist, and to make something simple yet pleasing with whatever you have in the moment without fussing too much about many details is so gratifying. Thank you for a great post.

As someone who dreams of making zines and books with my work (but doesn’t because it’s daunting), this is so inspiring. Did you teach yourself book binding?

I also love winter, both for its sights and the unique quality of sound! Glad I stumbled upon you and your work.

Hey, Amy! Glad you are here. I know zines and books are daunting, but you really should give it a try. Just for yourself. It isn't as difficult as you think. As for the book binding - there are many videos on YT where you can learn all the different techniques -from very simple ones to more advanced ones.

Lovely zine, Susanne! Thanks for the nudge. Been wanting to do this but my printer is not the best. But, giving permission to be imperfect makes me want to try again.

You are welcome, Jennifer! These were all taken with my little Ricoh GRIII (a compact camera), but I usually photograph with a mirrorless Sony. And sometimes analogue.
