I had no idea you were a dog photographer! The images are all really wonderful. I am a dog lover, too. They are truly special creatures and I couldn't imagine my life without one.
I am glad your dog is doing better and on the move again.
Awww, I hope Ben's surgery went well and that he is on his way to a full recovery. Thank you for sharing your story! And, I love that portrait of you and Ben. I'm a late bloomer when it comes to dogs. I visited my brother and met his miniature pinscher pooch named Pina in 2022 and just fell in love. The following year she had surgery so I stayed with her while she recovered. Ahh, what a beautiful experience to have that time with her. Hopefully, I get to see her again this September, crossing my fingers. Happy Birthday again, Susanne!
Thank you, Stella! Ben is already up and running around as always. Dogs are just wonderful. I am happy for everyone who can experience how amazing these creatures are. Better late, than never! 😉
So glad to read Ben is doing well and hope that you enjoyed your birthday. Love the studio portraits by the way, the expressions in their faces are amazing!
Thanks for sharing your story and love for what you do.
Thank you, Jack! So glad to hear you enjoyed the read. A little bit different, but I think it is interesting to learn a bit about the person behind the lens.
These are lovely. Why have I never thought to do this?! I’ve long shied away from people portrait sessions in favor of keeping photography a hobby. But my dogs have long been my default models, and I think this sounds very fun.
It is so interesting to photograph other dogs. Not always easy, but it is a great way to learn. I think it is an advantage to being a dog photographer if you are a dog owner yourself.
Lovely photos Susanne, especially the last one of you and Ben.
It was great to read your story about how you got into dog photography. I had a similar journey and practiced dog photography for a few years before focusing solely on landscapes. Unfortunately I lost my beautiful boy (a Saluki cross) last year and life hasn't been quite the same since.
Dogs are such great companions and I hope Ben recovers well from his op. 🙂
I had a dog that would pose for me on walks., yes, I believe she read my mind. She was like would this be a good shot? And I did a mini studio for a while (at the time I had 3 dogs) and they would constantly jump up on the platform because they knew they would get treats for posing. So willing to please and earn treats at the same time. They add so much to life!
This is so touching and such great inspiration in so many ways.
Josh, thank you for your kind words. It always makes me happy to read people find inspiration in my writing!
Happy Birthday and all the best to your cutie, Ben. I enjoyed reading and viewing this post a lot. 💜
Thank you for your kind words! It makes me happy to hear you enjoyed this post. Not the typical topic, but it was fun to share a little of my story.

Happy you enjoyed learning this about me. He is my first dog, and one of the best things ever happened to me.
Great photos and a great story! Made me smile!
Thank you, Dan! That is a great compliment!

Thank you, Xavi! It is funny how one thing sometimes leads to another. I don’t think I would have ever thought about photographing dogs without Ben.
Glad that Ben is recovering so well.
I absolutely love the studio portraits- so fun and so different from your usual nature walks and black & whites. Thanks for sharing.
Happy Birthday!
Glad you enjoyed the read and the photos. Ben is already jumping up and down the mountains with us, stalking marmots and having a good time! =)
happy birthday!
p.s. say hi to ben 😊
Thank you! He is snoring next to me right now, but I will let him know you said hello!
Lovely photos, Susanne. The one of you and your pal Ben is marvelous. Thanks for sharing your story...and of course, happy birthday!

I am very sorry you lost your dog, Gill! I can’t imagine how life will be without Ben. They are indeed wonderful companions and great teachers too!
