This series are incredible Susanne, congratulations!
Are the names related to the area? And do the objects related to the names in any way?
May I recommend the work of Anastasia Semoylova, a visual artist who uses collage to intervene her own photographs about spaces which might soon disappear?
The names are inspired by the European women who traveled to the US, but I made them up. I just create a story around every woman in my head like one was very religious and would go to church every Sunday and, read the Bible and pray. I integrated papers of from the Bible into the collage and added a rosary etc.
Thank you for the recommendation . I just looked at her website. I love her photography!
Thank you, Patrick! I have been making collages before, so combining them with photography was only one step further. I finished them right before the Pandemic and was only able to show them twice (at a gallery and a big Art Fair in Germany).
What a wonderful project Susanne - so creative. I love the imagined lives you have created for each building and the way you have put the pieces together. They look beautiful.
Thank you, Gill! It was interesting to see the project evolve over time. I didn’t plan this when I took the photos. The idea really came later while reading about these women…
Thank you, Victoria! The ephemera I usually find on Etsy or eBay, sometimes in Antique stores. The names are all made up by me, just like the stories I spun around those photos and houses. Happy you like it!

Thank you, Gergely! I made them because I was inspired by the women I read about. Creating these collages were the perfect way to give my imagination a voice.

Thank you, Luka! Happy you like them!
What an awesome project Susanne! Incredibly inventive and artistic. I also love the color palette of these artworks. A couple of questions:
1. How did you decide on/create the collage technique?
2. Where did you exhibit the work?

Such a great way to take a photograph further. Love what you did with these art works.

Such an interesting project, and beautiful work. Where did you find the ephemera? Are the names from real historical women? Thanks for sharing this!
