Your photos always have a wonderful lightness to them. Makes me think about writers who work with walking—Sebald comes to mind, but others as well. Lovely.

Thank you for your feedback. Interestingly, I am actually working on an essay how walking and photography is connected for me! ☺️

I look forward to reading it! I often feel like I am floating from image to image when I move through your images. As if I'm floating over your shoulder.

Well, now, I have to add to the above comments! I never get tired of photographing trees; I love trees; in the days of my husband’s healthy life, he was a horticulturist & dendrologist; at one time we joined a group of tree lovers on Saturday morning walks identifying trees.

Susanne, you have certainly sparked the attention of several tree-lovers & you have enthused me to start writing again & exploring my collection of trees. A big

‘Thank you! ‘

What a beautiful collection, Susanne. I have many favorites- the fungi, the arrows, the criss crossing branches, the leaf on the stump. To me, walking in nature with a camera is one of the biggest joys in life.

Thanks, Mary! Just imagine a life without trees? It would be so empty and joyless. I am so thankful that I have easy access to Nature where I live...

Beautiful! I never tire of trees either.

There is nothing like just walking ..... with a camera. A lovely collection Susanne

These are wonderful, Susanne. I love the graysclae, the textures, the pure blacks and the bright whites, the abstractions and the patterns in these natural settings. Beautiful set!

Thank you, Xavi! The patterns of Nature never cease to amaze and the black and white helps to emphasize this so well. Happy you enjoyed them!

Beautiful. I have been taking this mindset on my walks and wow - you’re revealed to a whole other world out there!

What a wonderful comment! Very sweet of you to say! I have to admit, there are days this approach feels very natural and the mindset comes easy and on other days it is not working at all. This was one of the better days!

I LOVE the close-up shot of the tree with fungi! A simple, but gorgeous capture!

Thank you! I was totally fascinated by the amount of these tiny fungi overtaking that whole little tree.

Wonderfully meditative photos. The sum of its parts, by which I mean the photos mean more by being a part of a series. And this is why I like Substack because it gives the chance to develop a thoughtful series (unlike social media platforms).

Yes! That is the idea of my visual journal. It is about the experience as a whole and not to post this one awesome photo. So grateful to be able to do this here and have an audience who gets it!

Nice photos. I especially like this one: https://substackcdn.com/image/fetch/f_auto,q_auto:good,fl_progressive:steep/https%3A%2F%2Fsubstack-post-media.s3.amazonaws.com%2Fpublic%2Fimages%2F353615dc-e0ac-4335-96b2-67b055f7b2bf_1600x2000.jpeg?utm_source=substack&utm_medium=email

I'm trying to master the art / craft of the bokeh. Lightroom has an AI assistant for that now.

Did you do yours in post-processing or in- camera using fast apperture?

Expand full comment

Thank you for your feedback! As for the bokeh - for a photo like this, I usually use a f 2.8 to f4 to blur the background. I am not a fan or better I am too lazy to learn how to do that in Lightroom. It is not for me...

Just photographing what attracts your eye often gets the best results. As itnwas this time as well.

Thank you, Marcel! And I think time and time again, that the Ricoh is helping too. Carrying it around instead of a 3 kilo DSLR is taking away a lot of pressure. Not only from my body, but from my mind as well. There is less pressure to go home with a bunch of new images. It is so amazing...
