After much debate about whether to share the photos from my recent trip to Florida1, I decided to include a few of them in today’s edition of My Visual Journal as I see this as a space to explore ideas and experiment freely with my photography.
As I was looking at my set of photos from an abandoned school in rural Florida, I was reminded of my own school days. I also remembered how my bag was always a jumble of loose pages from different classes, notes I had taken during class, decorated with random doodles and ink drips.
This brought up the idea for a zine using my photographs and pairing them with old pages from letters, books, and notebooks.
And here are a few of the photos from that zine:
I started My Visual Journal as an addition to my regular newsletter, sharing the photos I’ve taken during the week on my walks. The idea is simple: more photos, fewer words. It’s sent out every other week, alternating with my regular newsletter, which focuses on a variety of topics — mostly art, photography, and the creative process.
You can explore past editions of My Visual Journal here.
If you are enjoying My Morning Muse, you can support me by subscribing to my newsletter, liking this post, and sharing it with friends.
Your support would mean the world to me!
X,
Susanne
I wrote a little bit about my experience here:
That's such a clever, original idea for a 'zine, Susanne. It fits perfectly with your wonderful photos. Abandoned places can be so photogenic.
