What draws me to windows, aside from their natural framing, are the natural filters they provide to the photograph: dirty, scratched, cracked, frosted, thick, polarized... so many kinds of filters in this world to press our lenses up against.
Love the video and the the photos in it. I too am in love with dirty windows. There's something magical about them and what they show. Dirt, smudges, and grime are a natural filter. A mystery, a story untold. They also nicely frame the story within the story.
So amazing! So inspired by you to find the focus to attempt my own zine some day.
I have this series called "From My Window" that I've been opening the top half to photograph the sunrise and sunsets through the tree around my house. Just this fall season, I started photographing through the window.
The windows are double-pane ones with the gas in between them for temp control but eventually the gas escapes or expires and the windows develop really cool cloudy effects.
I love windows! Looking out, looking in, looking through…. There are so many ways where windows can help you create an interesting photograph. It’s a wonderful tool for photography in so many different ways.
This is a wonderful topic. Thanks for sharing!
And, as usual, your zine is beautiful. Love the design!
Thanks so much, Manuela! It is really is such an interesting topic and to look at others work and how the use and interprete windows. I might have to write another post which is focussing on photographs created by others.
I really enjoyed looking at the zine of windows. I love that the photographs are black and white this makes them timeless. It makes me wonder about what has been seen from those windows over the years. Today I look out my window, day dreaming of a warm, sunny, 70 degree spring day.
With me it's doors.... Can't walk past an interesting one without photographing it. Drives my wife mad! For me, doors and windows are portals...sometimes they could leavyou into more mysterious places. Love the Zine Btw.... How did you manage the printing of the photos onto the sheet may I ask? 👍
Your reflection on windows as the snow falls outside, then moving to the historical perspective, and eventually to the creation of your beautifully creative zine, is inspired. Well done!
Inspiring! I have always been drawn to windows, too, and have wished to be able to express my vision in art, but have never actually put paint to canvas. (One day!) Beautiful photos and the music matches perfectly.

That is true! They can serve as filters sometimes. Thank you for your comment, Mark!

Thank you, Alex! And yes, all of that... The history of photography is full of amazing examples. I think I need to write a follow-up post...
Just one word, Susanne - genius! I missed the boat on the purchase. Lucky 3 souls. I really love this one!

That sounds like an interesting project and a good one for a zine!

Thanks, Jason! This and other questions about the lives lived behind those windows are always interesting to me, too!

Yes, doors have the same effect to me as windows. I am glad my husband is so patient with me, because I always stop to take photos when we are out! 🙈
You're just as obsessed as me then! 😊
Just worked out they are separate pages glued together...nice job!
